Many movement and exercise training programmes rely on generalised conditioning exercises, assuming that increased strength, stability, or endurance in an isolated exercise/task will translate to improved performance. But does this approach really deliver? Research in motor learning, biomechanics, and skill acquisition suggests otherwise.

‘Strong abdominals’ doesn’t guarantee movement efficacy or efficiency. A ‘stable pelvis’ doesn’t ensure controlled, dynamic motion. Generic conditioning exercises rarely provide the intended benefits.

This workshop will challenge assumptions about exercise relevance, breaking down why specificity is critical for achieving meaningful movement outcomes. We will explore how to evaluate exercise effectiveness and ensure that training interventions align with the real-world functional demands that matter to you and those you teach.
